The Arangetram | அரங்கேற்றம் | रङ्गारोहणम्
An Arangetram is the debut stage performance of a student of Indian classical dance or music, marking their transition from a learner to a performing artist. The word comes from Sanskrit and Tamil, with Araṅga meaning "stage" and Etram meaning "ascent" or "stepping up." Literally, it signifies “ascending the stage.”
The Arangetram is far more than a performance. It is a sacred promise and a heartfelt declaration by the student to carry forward the lineage and legacy of their art form. It represents a moment of ascension where years of rigorous training, unwavering devotion, and the blessings of the Guru come together on a grand stage.
The journey toward an Arangetram goes beyond perfecting technique. It is a deeply transformative process that nurtures emotional expression, spiritual connection, and a profound understanding of the art. At its core, it is a living embodiment of the Guru-Sishya Parampara, the timeless teacher-student tradition.

The Founders
Founded by the legendary Carnatic vocalist Neyveli Santhanagopalan, a Sangita Kalanidhi and SNA award-winner renowned for his scholarship and soulful singing, Sishyakulam serves over five hundred learners across continents, imparting Carnatic and Hindustani music, and other Indian art forms.
Under the stewardship of his son, Shankar Santhanagopalan, a skilled vocalist and percussionist, Sishyakulam has evolved into a premier institution and ecosystem for Indian arts. Today, it reimagines choral presentations through its EPIC Choir and, via the Sishyakulam Academy, provides Indian arts education to students across the globe.
